I previously discussed it as follows before it passed with the same auction house in New York on December 10, 2015.
In 1998 Volkswagen buys Lamborghini for strengthening its Audi luxury division. Through the new models designed by Luc Donckerwolke, the Italian brand restarts. Launched in 2004 the Lamborghini Gallardo becomes the best commercial success of the brand and is the subject of additional special series.
In 2005, Lamborghini unveils its Concept S at the Geneva Motor Show with a single example without engine. This concept car is a two seater spyder based on the Gallardo with the idea of a dual Formula 1 monoposto. Its greatest originality is indeed its dual cockpit separated by a full length bar between driver and passenger.
The Concept S is a futuristic artwork that is much enjoyed by the public. A pre-series car numbered 00001 is built in 2006 with some modifications necessary for road homologation and Lamborghini does not counter the rumor that a series of one hundred is scheduled. Please watch the interview of Donckerwolke shared by Earthflix on YouTube during an operational show.
The car is very difficult to build and the project is stopped. Only one customer has placed an order and the pre-series car is sold to him. We may consider that its central bar is indeed not ideal for the dating use of a supercar while assuring some social quietness to the driver !
This experimental model had definitely not the vocation to rest in the traffic jams. The prototype without engine is kept in that state by Lamborghini and the pre-series car accumulates in its ten years of existence only 180 km essentially achieved in concours d'élégance and shows.
Please watch the video shared by RM before the New York auction, also with the participation of the designer.
