The fitting in the back of a Lotus Exige of a 7-liter Hennessey Venom 1000 Twin Turbo engine is the result of an intuition. Released in 2011, the Hennessey Venom GT car enters in competition with the new Koenigsegg Agera R for breaking speed and acceleration records.
The lead singer of the Aerosmith band, Steven Tyler, likes life at full speed. He asks Hennessey if he can have a brief drive of a Venom. He is seduced and emits the suggestion of a convertible. This is bold because a close cockpit provides some protection to the seaters in a supercar. Hennessey realizes in 2012 for Tyler a Venom GT Spyder, black outside and inside.
In January 2013 a Venom GT reaches 200 mph (322 km/h) in less than 15 seconds. The average speed reached in April of the same year over 2 miles is 265 mph (428 km/h). The structural modification had slightly reduced the performance of the spyder compared to the coupe. This gap is almost filled : a spyder reached 427 km/h top speed in March 2016.
This champion is too scarce for being homologated as a production car : the total population of the Venom GT including altogether coupes and spyders is 12 units.
Tyler's Spyder is the fifth car and the first convertible in this series. It is offered at no reserve on January 20 in Scottsdale by Barrett-Jackson, lot 3003, to the benefit of Janie's Fund, the charity created by Tyler in partnership with Youth Villages to help abused girls.
