At the beginning of Rocky III a dense crowd is gathered for the inauguration of a monumental statue in the courtyard of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The bronze Rocky in fight uniform raises his gloved fists in a sign of victory. Unexpectedly an artistic glory begins : Philadelphia praises the self-made men even when they are fiction. Since 2006 the statue is permanently exhibited at the bottom of the steps of the museum.
The champion is larger than life : 2.60 m tall for the man, and 3.65 m overall including the raised arms and the base. The monument weighing more than 800 kg was made by A. Thomas Schomberg in a license to create three units.
No 2/3 was edited in 1980 at the same time as the screen used 1/3 Philadelphia copy. It will be sold by SCP Auctions in an online auction ending on November 4, lot 1 estimated between $ 500K and 1M. Here is the link to the press release.
No 3/3 which closes that production was made in 2006 and is available for sale from Schomberg Studios.
