By lightening chassis and body and removing unnecessary accessories for the competition, the 8V berlinetta can become a leader in the 2 liter class. This option appeals Vignale who produces a unique coupe corsa 8V in 1954 and Zagato who makes in 1955-1956 five 8V Elaborata with the roof stiffened by the doppia bolla.
Vignale's coupe corsa could have been the first unit of a prestigious series but it was not ready in time for the Paris Motor Show in 1954. Around the same time Fiat fearing the additional costs of this model that does not enter its core business stops the 8V and supplies the remaining pieces of equipment to SIATA. The coupe corsa 8V by Vignale will have no following.
This Vignale coupe corsa was used intensively in competition from 1955 to 1960, including a performance spectacular but cut short by an accident at the 1955 Mille Miglia. The mishandled original body was replaced in 1957. After a mechanical revision by Maglioli in 1987 it appears in many veteran contests and remains eligible for the most prestigious events.
This one-off car will be sold by Finarte on May 14 in Brescia. The sale is held at the Museo Mille Miglia. It is estimated € 2M, lot 134. Please watch the video shared by the auction house.
