In 2005, Lamborghini unveils its Concept S at the Geneva Motor Show with a single copy without engine. This concept car is a spyder inspired by the Gallardo without formally entering that range. Its greatest originality is a dual cockpit separated by a full length bar between the driver and the passenger.
The Concept S is a futuristic artwork that is much enjoyed by the public. A pre-series car numbered 00001 is built in 2006 with some modifications necessary for the road homologation and Lamborghini does not counter the rumor that a series of one hundred is scheduled. I invite you to watch the interview of Donckerwolke shared by Earthflix on YouTube during the first operational show.
The car is very difficult to build and the project is stopped. Only one customer has placed an order and the pre-series car is sold to him. We may consider that the split cockpit is indeed not ideal for the social use of a supercar.
This experimental car had definitely not the vocation to mingle with other vehicles on the road. The prototype without engine is kept in this state by Lamborghini and the pre-series car accumulates less than 300 km in its almost ten years of existence, essentially achieved in concours d'élégance and shows.
00001 is estimated $ 2.4M for sale by RM Sotheby's in New York on December 10, lot 212. I invite you to play the video shared by the auction house, also with the participation of the designer.
