The model starts well in 1967. The first car is driven in the following year by Faye Dunaway in The Thomas Crown Affair and admired without limit by one of the most knowledgeable fans, Steve McQueen.
The American market did not meet the expectations of Chinetti who had hoped to order 25 units. Not only this series was limited to 10 cars but the last of them did not even join the North American NART. Released from factory in 1968, it was sold to a Spanish customer.
This beautiful model raises the same fidelity as the 250 GTO and is much rarer. Both models almost never come to auction. The 8th spider, sold for $ 27,5M including premium by RM Auctions on August 17, 2013, had remained for 45 years in the care of its first owner.
The 10th and last car already discussed above has retained its original equipment and was repainted in dark metallic red in imitation of the screen appearance of the car used by Faye Dunaway. It is estimated € 19M for sale in Monaco on May 14 by RM Sotheby's, successor to RM Auctions, lot 254.
