On September 20 in London, Prop Store sells one of at least two jackets worn by Harrison Ford as Han Solo in 1980 in the second movie, The Empire Strikes Back. It is estimated £ 500K, lot 463. The color reproduction in the motion pictures is not reliable and the fabric has been dyed in blue-grey to appear navy blue on the screen.
The production company did not own such props. The jacket was returned to its tailor Caledonian Costumes who was hoping for further rentals, and then it went out of sight.
The success at auction of the most recognizable elements of Star Wars is growing. An original 1977 R2-D2 robot, heavily modified for the needs of the movies until 2002 and emptied of its active equipment, was sold for $ 2.76M including premium by Profiles in History on June 27, 2017.
Intergalactic weapons are spectacular but dummy. In the same sale as the robot, a light saber from Luke Skywalker was sold for $ 450K including premium by Profiles in History. On June 23, 2018, Julien's sold for $ 550K including premium a blaster gun used by Han Solo.
